ABSTRACT

Ventricular arrhythmias range from isolated ventricular extrasystoles (whether symptomatic or asymptomatic) to malignant ventricular arrhythmias (pulseless ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation). Ventricular extrasystoles are common and the majority are usually harmless, although they may be more frequent in susceptible patients who ingest caffeine or alcohol. However, significant ventricular arrhythmias are more likely to cause circulatory collapse than atrial arrhythmias and usually have greater prognostic significance.
