ABSTRACT

Candida spp. are a frequent cause of infection in patients with neoplastic diseases. Syndromes caused by these organisms range from generally benign, irritating mucosal infections such as oropharyngeal or vaginal candidiasis, to the severely debilitating esophageal candidiasis, to life-threatening invasive bloodstream and visceral infections. As the latter manifestations are a frequent cause of infectious death in severely immunocompromised patients, this discussion will primarily focus on the management of these invasive infections.
