ABSTRACT

How does culture that is distributed from outside our immediate social worlds figure in our lives? The differences between urbane cosmopolitan individuals and people of “country-and-western” sensibilities show that personality and lifestyle have cultural aspects. If this is so, it follows that somehow individuals “take on” some elements of the culture that they experience. That people are influenced by culture is an obvious truth. People often live the culture. We need think only of the rock-music fan whose life revolves around concerts and new releases of music. And what about all those romance novels available at the drugstores? Someone is buying them.
