ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study of the organization of labour in agricultural production in the two provinces (Muhafazat) of Aleppo and Idleb in north-western Syria. It examines changes in the constitution and nature of agricultural labour in recent years and analyses labour supply and employment patterns in different farming systems in these two predominantly agrarian areas. It also studies the impact of agricultural intensification on the organization of male and female labour in agricultural production.
