ABSTRACT
Wetlands developed as wet land, and either they are now wet or they have been dried, usually by human impact removing water. These wet land conditions may be the flooded gravel pit abandoned less than a decade ago, or sites where drainage was impeded at the end of the Ice Age, 10 000 years ago.
