ABSTRACT
Despite the range of his work, often pioneering, despite the recognition he received from his contemporaries and successors, the bibliographic sources are nearly mute on his life and works. Recent uncertainties surrounding his name have even resulted in presenting him in terms of a split persona: he has been despoiled of an important swath of his titles, which have been seen to glorify another author who never even existed.
