Sino-Indian strategic competition and the Asia Paciﬁc
China has never been far from India’s mind. Many in New Delhi still remember India’s humiliating defeat by China in 1962 and resent China’s continuing support for Pakistan. As both India and China rise as economic powers, the rivalry between them has become more complex and wide-ranging. India now sees the Asia Paciﬁc as a critical region in which it must compete with China and balance its rising power.
