ABSTRACT

In the election held on 28 September 1969, the SPD won 224 seats, the CDU 192, the CSU 50 and the FDP 30. To the general relief, the NDP obtained only 4.5 per cent of the votes overall, so that they remained unrepresented in the Bundestag; the support which they received in the southern Länder failed to outweigh their weakness in the north and above all in North Rhine-Westphalia.
