ABSTRACT

Four fundamental principles can be identified which establish the need for environmental planning for site development.

CONSERVING AN ENVIRONMENT CAPABLE OF SUPPORTING HUMAN LIFE

This is a basic requirement for all land-use planning. The need for food, clean water, clean air and shelter is fundamental to human survival. In operating as site planners we are rarely likely to be concerned with such issues, since they have to be sorted out at the strategic planning level if they are to be dealt with effectively. However, there are some basic considerations arising from these fundamental human requirements, which can and do have an impact at the site planning level.
