ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors summarize the results in relation to their main themes, i.e. togetherness, autonomy and equality. The rhetoric on equality consists of many varied perceptions of equality and what is ideal. Despite existing examples of conflicts and obvious injustices in how the couples divide labour and money, both men and women perceive themselves as equal. The complexity picture is strengthened by the author’s inability to find any associations between division of labour and allocation of money. It is imaginable that couples who advocate agreements for division of labour would also have advocated more differentiated models for allocation of money. The authors discuss the relationship between patterns of division of labour and allocation of money based on its role in the togetherness. They describe the relationship between autonomy and equality. The purpose is to clarify the ways in which autonomy takes shape and what significance it has for equality in couple relationships.
