ABSTRACT
This chapter comments on the importance of new materials research through a brief examination of transportable or lightweight building components. In instances where the fact of portability and lightness becomes a form generator in architecture and design a different approach to available technology and material resources is required. The examples demonstrate that research on new materials and construction methods will continue to play an important role in the development of innovative design applications for transportable environments.
