ABSTRACT
In early 1856 the htì was hoisted on a pagoda situated on a hill above the site of the present Papun town. Today Papun is the main town in this Karen-dominated area. In the mid-1950s it was the capital of the KNU Kawthulay state but was taken by the Burmese army in 1955.
