ABSTRACT
Made of clay or of diatomaceous earth. The sides of the blocks are grooved as shown to provide a key for plastering. Fig 1. Blocks are lightweight, not affected by moisture, provide good thermal insulation and fire resistance. Fixing to these blocks, e.g. shelving, built-in furniture etc. presents some difficulties, but special toggle fixings can be used and fixing blocks are available which can be nailed or screwed. Clay blocks are difficult to cut but half and three-quarter blocks are available to obviate cutting.
