ABSTRACT

The thickness of the material is critical and the minimum thickness laid down in the table, should be carefully observed. Thin slabs should be positioned against dabs of weak mortar or lime putty applied to the backing. Copper or brass cramps are caulked into mortices in the structural frame, and set in mortices drilled in the top or side of the slabs. ‘S’ hooks are set in mortices drilled in the bottom edge of the upper slab and clipped behind the top edge of the lower slab. Over openings they may be set in the sides of slabs. N.B. ‘S’ hooks and tie cramps should preferably not be more than 25mm apart.
