Charity law and social inclusion in Ireland

Charity law in Ireland is rooted in the common law and anchored on the Statute of Pious Uses 16341 and its English predecessor the Statute of Charitable Uses 1601.2 It has developed to become more facilitative than interventionist in nature, is dependent upon a legislative framework that is 40 years old and is given effect through a range of government bodies and legal structures which have quite traditional legal functions.
