ABSTRACT
In the English dictionary the surrogate means “substitute” as compared to the real thing. Surrogacy has been used to treat certain forms of childlessness for centuries. Many argue that surrogacy dates back to biblical times when Rachel asked her maidservant to bear a child for herself and her husband. However commercial surrogacy was not available until relatively recently. Surrogacy involves a contracting couple and another woman, known as the surrogate.
