ABSTRACT

This paper argued that the increasing sensitivity of fine-needle aspiration and ultrasonography allowed a preoperative diagnosis of fibroadenoma with a high degree of confidence. The risks of missing a cancer when a diagnosis of fibroadenoma had been made were calculated to be 1 in 3313 for ages 20-24, and 1 in 229 for ages 25-29. The authors thus recommended only triple assessment in patients up to the age of 25 years.
