ABSTRACT
This paper suggested that the progesterone receptor was an estrogen-inducible function in hormone-dependent tissue. As a result of this observation, it was posited that measurement of the progesterone receptor would serve as a surrogate not only for the presence of the estrogen receptor, but as a functional hormone response system and thus accurately predict which patients would respond to endocrine therapy.
