ABSTRACT
The Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BIRADS) of the American College of Radiology provides radiologists with precise definitions of mammographic findings for both benign and malignant lesions. This system is described in this paper. A framework for analysis is provided along with the five final assessment categories that are action-oriented and are required by MQSA. The goal is to more effectively communicate the implications of findings to physicians and patients as well as to better correlate mammographic findings with outcomes.
