ABSTRACT

An abundance of experimental data regarding the ability of implanted myoblastic cells to restore the function of damaged cardiomyocytes encouraged cardiovascular surgeons and interventional cardiologists in Paris, France and Dusseldorf, Germany to treat patients with extensive MI by cell transplantation (CT).1,2 Owingto the paucityof suitable donors for orthotopic heart transplantation, as well as the severity and risks of such an undertaking, the success of cell transplantation in the prevention of massive damage of heart muscle after MI has been encouraging.
