The purpose and benefits of the pre-contract involvement of the steel fabricator are:
• the particular skills and experience of the fabricator in similar projects can be identified
• the fabricator can comment on the practicality and costeffectiveness of the proposed scheme
• practical details and an appropriate degree of standardisation can be established
• the structural engineer and architect can incorporate comments by the fabricator, and update their designs drawings as necessary
• more accurate budget estimates can be prepared and monitored as the design evolves.
