It is not easy to assemble the full facts on this subject. There was no central control and there is no comprehensive record, though a considerable number of monuments on the Breton coast bear witness to exploits that were an epic of the Resistance. The list in Appendix B should perhaps be regarded as illustrative rather than exhaustive.1
