ABSTRACT

The potential for Scotland’s built heritage to motivate learning and teaching is remarkable, and safeguarding its future is essential. Under the direction of the Director and Chief Executive, knowledge developed within the Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Inspectorates informs the work of the Heritage Policy Directorate. The implementation of policies apropos the agency’s role in safeguarding the nation’s built heritage is supported by the Technical, Conservation, Research and Education Group (TCRE). Formed in 1993, TCRE works to improve the standard of conservation carried out on Scotland’s built heritage through research, the development of skills relating to conservation of the built heritage, and by raising standards of conservation practice among owners, trade and professional groups.
