ABSTRACT

Throughout the lifetime of the NHES, we sought to develop up-to-date, accurate and innovative ways of disseminating knowledge about the historic environment to a wide audience, thus providing opportunities for schools, teachers, pupils, parents, local interest groups and landowners to develop their knowledge and involvement in their heritage through the use of the local historic environment. To this end, a number of specific aims were set which formed the underlying framework for the development of a wide-ranging programme of educational opportunities for all interested parties:

To make accessible the richness and variety of the historic environment to the widest range of educational audiences and as a result promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of the county’s heritage.
