ABSTRACT
The old and rigid order — symbolized by seniority, lifetime employment, and omnipresent bureaucratic control — is to be replaced by a more liberal, open, fluid, thus harsher order. A Japan that abandons long-cherished notions of harmony and predictability is in the making.
