ABSTRACT
Newly incorporated interests in ICMI and Golkar came into conflict with rival segments of the military and the government bureaucracy that had been antagonised by the rise of new groups and the state-Islamic accommodation. An outcome of this conflict was a re-politicisation of state-Islamic relations, after Suharto had made concerted efforts to de-politicise state-group relations for the past two-decades.
