ABSTRACT

Long-term research, because of the enduring ties that develop, is more likely to be action or advocacy orientated (Foster et al. 1979). The overwhelming sense of responsibility that I developed from having long, enduring relationships meant that respondents’ needs and desires became important to me. Over the period of my research it has changed from being research on the people (for my company’s benefit) to being research for the people. I have not been able to ignore the villagers’ desire to benefit from my research.
