ABSTRACT
Imperialist regimes survive on the exploitation of their subjects. By taxation and forced labour they extract surplus food and work from the population and redistribute it as they wish. This is not just an economic phenomenon. Through the physical actions of paying taxes and working in labour gangs, people experience imperial rule in their bodies.
