ABSTRACT

Studies of Liszt as composer include summaries of his compositional output and studies of individual compositional procedures; examinations of stylistic influences on his own works; discussions of his influence on the music of his contemporaries and successors; and assessments of his relationship with contemporary movements, attitudes, and individual critics. Studies of individual Liszt compositions are dealt with in Chapters 8-11, studies of “Liszt pedagogy and performance practices” in Chapter 12.
