ABSTRACT
From its earliest stages, women’s participation in the British anti-slavery movement raised central questions concerning women’s role and position in society. These surfaced both in debates on the role of women in the movement and in comparisons between the position of enslaved women in the British colonies and ‘free’ women in Britain.
