ABSTRACT
A wide variety of natural and synthetic, organic and inorganic chemicals can react with DNA altering its structure and causing mutation. Most chemical mutagens are carcinogenic and cause cancer. In addition, a range of physical agents can cause mutation. These include ionizing radiation in the form of X-rays and γ-rays, nonionizing radiation, particularly ultraviolet light, and also heat.
