ANGELINA ROSCA During the last season the theatrical art (and the culture in general) of the Republic
of Moldova has become not only the most economically vulnerable realm of
public life, but also a zone of attacks. After the communists came to power in
February 2001 they tried to resume control of the theatre, a control that had been
renounced by the state in 1991, simultaneously with the Declaration of Independence
of the Republic of Moldova. To achieve that gain Parliament published a bill regarding
the activity of Theatres, circus and concert organisations, a part of a whole policy seeking
the return of a time long past.
