ABHI SUBEDI Nepali theatre in the last three years has undergone important changes in terms

of both textual and theatrical innovation. In a country whose dramatic traditions

have strong bases in both culture and performance, change in theatrical practice

should not be seen as something of recent origin. Nepali theatre at the turn of

the century has revived some traditions, produced some new plays and accepted

certain intercultural innovations in both text and performance. Traditional Nepali

society, which has always nurtured and continued the theatrical tradition, has suddenly

awakened to a new mode of reality and new forms of challenge. In a short

period of time, it became divided between old values and aspirations for change.
