CECILE BROMMER The majority of Dutch theatre-makers and choreographers have long seen the

credible portrayal of a better or more beautiful world as something ‘improper’.

One can see in this the inheritance of Calvinism, which had a particularly

formative effect on the north-western region of the Netherlands. Or perhaps

it is the emphasis on the individual, which characterizes the whole of Europe.
