ABSTRACT

Regional metastasis is one of the most important factors in the prognosis and treatment of patients with head and neck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC). It is one of the most important known factors affecting survival and, since lymphatic metastasis is a common route of regional spread, a decision whether or not to treat the lymph nodes of the neck has to be made in the majority of the patients. Therefore, for choosing the appropriate treatment in patients with HNSCC, assessment of the neck is of the greatest importance.
