ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 will be concerned with relationships between distinct inflexional paradigms, and Chapter 4 with relationships between the exponents of certain morphosyntactic properties within a single paradigm. The bulk of the present chapter is concerned with prima facie evidence for the importance of the inflexional paradigm as a theoretical notion. By way of introduction, however, we need to make explicit the relevance of the study of paradigms to the aims set out in Chapter 1.
