ABSTRACT
The whole of French sport was also taken under government control, and a new department, the Ministère de la Jeunesse et des Sports (Ministry of Youth and Sport) was created. This ministry now has ultimate responsibility for the development of sport in France and decides which sports and athletes shall have access to INSEP facilities and expertise. It also dictates the levels of funding that are available for the development of elite sport.
