REBT as an intentional therapy
By 'intentionality' I mean every mental activity from starting to desire something to achieving the desired goal. In this context, I focus especially on the strategies used to implement the desire. The goal can be anything from obtaining sweets to leading a fulfilling life. Psychological problems arise when somebody is blocked in pursuing a goal and then uses erroneous strategies to cope with the frustration. I see this as a deraihnent of the intention. Cognitions caused by these strategies contain 'musts', 'oughts' and 'shoulds'.
