ABSTRACT

If international students are the ‘canaries’ in the coalmine as we suggest in Chapter 1, then it is necessary to examine the issues at the ‘coalface’ for both international students and their lecturers. This chapter focuses on the ‘operational’ issues and dilemmas that may surface in multicultural classrooms. It provides a summary of the problematic areas cited by international students and lecturers and provides practical suggestions as to how lecturers can improve their teaching and learning for international students in ways that will benefit all students.
