ABSTRACT

The term pitched roof basically covers the standard tiled or slated roof that is the norm in the UK.

COVERINGS-TILES/SLATES

The coverings to a pitched roof comprise (Figs 19.1 to 19.5):

(a) A covering of manufactured tiles, shingles, or slates (natural or manufactured). (b) Ridge and hip tiles to cover the exposed edges. (c) Leadwork for flashings, soakers, aprons and the like. (d) Battens to support the roof finish. (e) Sarking or underfelt as a secondary barrier if a tile/slate is lost in a high wind.
