ABSTRACT

Bahrain is an archipelago of thirty-six islands surrounding a main island protruding from the Arabian land mass into the Arab/Persian Gulf. The total land area of all the islands is about 700 km2 of which the main island accounts for 90 per cent. Manama, the capital, is located close on the northern coast of the main island, overlooking the Gulf.
