ABSTRACT
SMEs are seen as central to the development of the European economy. They are among the most dynamic enterprises in Europe and are crucial in creating and sustaining the EU’s competitive position. In terms of innovation, job creation and other key issues, SMEs are becoming more and more important. As a consequence, it is becoming increasingly important to recognise and, where necessary, support and aid the contribution that SMEs make to the European economy.
