ABSTRACT
This chapter will look at notions of planning in texts, and will move from some basic work on the degrees to which texts are planned, to some more subtle notions of what lies behind the way texts are constructed and responded to. The word ‘degrees’ here is used to suggest the different amounts of planning that may have gone into a text.
