ABSTRACT
Introduction Throughout the NYRB debate, no one considers whether psychoanalysis could be a science which is valid without being empirically based. Is it possible to have an evaluable theoretical system with subject matter which is not publicly observable, directly or indirectly, in practice or in principle?
