ABSTRACT
Distances were measured in ‘scores’, but in contrast to knur and spell each score was 10 rather than 20 yards. The player who hit the billet furthest – a hit of 100 yards would be considered an excellent hit – was the winner. The game was particularly popular on the Lancashire-Yorkshire border around Todmorden and Halifax.
