ABSTRACT
Cricklade is a village in Wiltshire which traditionally held a fair on the first Sunday after 12 August. Linked with the opening of common lands for sheep-grazing, the fair was also a festival of sports, such as bull baiting, boxing, wrestling, cockfighting, cudgels and leg-kicking.
