ABSTRACT

A Yorkshire game in which a wooden peg is balanced on a ring on the ground and players take it in turns to hit it into the air with a short stout stick and then hit it again before it falls to the ground. The opposing player then estimates the number of leaps that the striker must make to reach the peg. If the striker reaches the peg in that number of leaps or less, the number of leaps is added to the striker’s score. If not, the opponent has the opportunity to reach the peg in that number of leaps and, if successful, those leaps are added to his score.
