ABSTRACT

One of the most important methodological reflections in the Dialogue occurs at the beginning of the Second Day (DML 148–53), in the context of Galileo's summary of the arguments against the earth's motion. This summary, in turn, is given just after his presentation of the simplicity arguments in favor of the earth's daily axial rotation and just before he undertakes the detailed analysis and criticism of each argument against. That methodological reflection elaborates several topics relating to the nature of rationality.
