ABSTRACT

This chapter covers aspects of data management, including discussions about file naming, metadata, and techniques for transcription and annotation. Associated with this is the process of recording and storing metadata that relates to the recordings. The chapter also covers some of the issues involved in archiving research materials, and in accessing archives. Careful data management practices will in the long run ensure that work practices are efficient, that priceless recordings are not lost or misplaced and finally, that recordings are looked after in appropriate ways so that future generations will benefit from the results of research.
