ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights an overall community cohesion that emerged after Pulse. It explains the community came together in unity after the event, and there are signs of victim remembrance all throughout Orlando. It shows that readers how identities can change quickly, as the tourism capital will also be synonymous forever with one of the worst mass shootings in US history. The chapter addresses community cohesion efforts that have given Orlando an entirely different sense of identity and place. June 12, 2016, changed Orlando forever. In the early hours of that Sunday morning, a lone gunman walked into the Pulse nightclub and murdered 49 innocent people. The Pulse tragedy, though, changed the way Orlando residents relate to each other – at least it appears that way. Long-term response efforts are being carried out via a contract with Central Florida United Way.
